2nd of August to the 12th of August - Sickness and missed ports

Easter Island
Well it's mid morning at the moment and we're sitting off easter island - we can see in the distance the giant statues - it's a very sparse island, not much in the way of vegitation.

Unfortunately this will be as close as we can get - it's too rough for us to safely go ashore - even though from here it looks like a beautiful sunny day with light winds and slight seas - anyway the decision has been made for safety reasons.  They tried to go into 2 different anchorages and both were unsuitable.
Slaverry (Equador)

We've not had great luck the last 10 days or so - Dave and I have both been down with a cold/flu that we picked up after Costa Rica (although I think it was bought aboard by the people who got on in New York) - it's a really bad cough that's been hanging on and on.

Manta (Equador) wasn't much of a port - it was basically a coal port, tours were few and far between - we didn't get off in Peru either (both of us were too sick and the weather was cold and rainy).
Callo (Peru)

Now with missing Easter Island we'gve been on the boat for 12 days - looking at another 5 or so before Tahiti.

This getting sick thing is ridiculous - we've managed to lose about 1/4 of the cruise so far to being sick! each cold/flu seems slightly different than the last, and seems to happen after each port where we get new passengers!  on the last world cruise it wasn't like this at all!

Anyway - the Captian has said we'll do a circumnaviation of the island and closeish range so we can see some of the sights - at least I can say I've seen the giant statues of easter island - even if it wasn't up close.
