Juneau (17th of August)

Well Juneau is an interesting place, perched in a narrow strip of flat land between the shore and some mountainous terrain.

It's the state capital of Alaska and a reasonably advanced little town. Our tour today started with some whale watching. Saw quite a few humpback whales, got lots of pics - also saw tons of seals and lots of other wildlife - the big boat we had for the trip was less than half full, so it was very roomy and quite relaxing.

One thing - DAMN there's a lot of fog here at this time of the year. It felt rather surreal, I've never experienced thicker fog than I have on this trip!

Second part of the trip was to Mendanhall Glacier - this is a land-locked glacier, and it's an interesting contrast to the water front ones we looked at yesterday - still has that brilliant blue colour! The visitor's centre was quite good too, lots of interesting info.

On the way back our tour guide gave us a brief overview of the town.
