Honolulu & Pearl Harbour (4th of August 2008)

Well today we arrived in Honolulu, very nice city!

We had a long tour today (almost 7 hours) - first stop was the Arizona memorial (pictured above) - interesting place to visit, nice to see a piece of history - horrific to think about the circumstances though.

We also visited several of the military bases that were active during the attack on pearl harbour - the guide was great, he set the scene very well with stories about the various pilots/etc. Lunch was at the old officers club (now a resturant) at one of the bases - had to be careful not to take photos of the entrances, flight-lines, etc (aparantly the military frowns upon taking photos of active military bases for some reason!) - anyway, lunch was AWESOME - easily as good as the food on the ship. We visited several places that were featured in several WW2 movies (Pearl Harbour, Tora Tora, From here to eternity) - then we had a quick tour of Honolulu.

All in all it was a very fun day!

Also - as you can see I have access to slightly faster internet in this port - I'm going to go back and put in some pictures further back in the blog.

Hey mate, sounds like you're having a great time wandering about the ocean.

Not long now and I'm off on my own wanderings - will have to catch up when you get back to OZ
