Friday 21st of June 2019 - Cadiz, Spain

Cadiz (view from cabin)
The sea is different once you get out beyond the rock of Gibraltar - a noticeable swell greeted us this morning as we pulled into Cadiz.

Our tour today is a trip to the Royal Andalusian Equestrian School and to one of the wineries to see how they produce sherry/wine/etc.

The guide was nice and positive, helpful and was happy to give commentary on the trip - Cadiz is a really nice little place, lots of sandy beaches..

Dave at the Training area
We drove about 30 mins out of town over to where the Royal Andalusian Equestrian School is located - it was a very impressive place, we got to see the stables and tack room - we got to watch as they trained some of the horses.  It's setup almost like a university, you can learn all different facets of horsemanship, also vet work, groomsmen, etc - although they only accept about a half dozen people a year into each discipline.

One of the more impressive horses
I'm not the greatest with horses, but these were very impressive even to me!
The "royal" Winery
After the horses, we ended up at one of the large wineries - we went through a number of the storage areas/etc - one of the areas is called the "Mice Winery" - this is because back in the day the manager had a problem with the mice in the area, they'd eat their way into the wine barrels, ruining entire batches.  The manager experimented a bit and figured out the wine the mice liked the best - and he started leaving out samples for the mice! this stopped them eating the barrels! (he even made little ladders so the mice could drink from the glasses easier :)

Mouse having fun!
We got back to the ship mid afternoon, it was a fun day!

We're at sea now for 3 days and then into Amsterdam.
