Apia - 21/7/2008 / 21/7/2008

Well this week we had two mondays! joy.. one lucky lady at dinner ended up celebrating her birthday twice! (I kid you not, they brought her our two cakes! one each night!

After yet another sea day, with some largish waves towards early this morning (Dave got woken up and he said it was like being on a roller-coaster).

We stopped in today at Apia in Western Samoa, kind of reminds me of the port-douglas area north of Cairns, very warm today 30+ and extremely high humidity. We walked into town from the ship, through the throngs of taxi drivers, all offering us a ride (at a price) it was a nice pleasant walk, if a little warm. Got a few nice photos along the way.

Saw a 17th century church and a few more modern (ie: WW2 era) buildings. Apparently Apia was used by the Allies in WW2 as a command post, and when they left - the buildings they built got taken over by the Western Samoan government.

Marylyn brought a few Sarongs for various people, but that was all the things we bought here. About the only detraction from the place were the people 'begging' on the road back from the ship - I don't have a problem with the guys selling things and trying to get a little extra (when we bought the Sarongs the guy we bought them from wanted US dollars rather than Australian, not a big deal) - but the guys sitting there just trying to mooch money from the tourists is a bit disappointing.
