Bora Bora (28th of July)
Ok - now THIS is what people think of when you say 'tahiti' to them - white sandy beaches that go for miles, coconut trees everywhere.. aqua water over coral reefs. Beautiful place to visit. BLOODY expensive though.
During our bus tour we went past a lot of 'famous' places (Marlon Brando's villa, the island Eddie Murphy rented out for his one week marriage/etc) - but damn it's expensive to say here - US$800 PER NIGHT is about the standard rate for a bungalo. And of course there are a LOT of poor native people around living in really substandard houses.
All in all it's a very nice place to visit for a single day on a cruise ship - but I wouldn't want to be staying on the island itself!
The beaches are nice and so is the water - but it's not any better than back in Australia in the Whitsundays/etc.
Visited a few of the WW2 landmarks - saw the airport and some of the storage bunkers for ammo - aparantly they've maintained a lot of the WW2 structures and use them as emergency shelters for Hurricanes/etc.
From here it's 5 days at sea to get to Hawaii (we have a short stop in at Christmas island, but we don't get off the ship). We're crossing the equator in a couple of days - aparantly there's some signifigance to doing so on a ship and there's some kind of 'crossing the line' ceremony going to be happening (and we get a certifcate or something as well).
I'm not going to be posting much in the next 5 days - they're just days at sea, so unless something spectacular happens, it'll just be relaxing and doing as little as possible.
I'm hopeful I'll be able to locate some kind of pre-paid mobile data card in Hawaii so I can upload some pictures at a decent speed - if anyone has any suggestions for what to look for shoot me an e-mail.
