Papeete (26th of July)
This is the biggest city since Auckland - very built up, but missing the skyscrapers of most big cities, it's a sprawling place with low-rise buildings. Papeete is the captial of Tahati - and our tour here is a 4WD tour.
We got picked up in the morning by our guide, Landrover truck 4wd - thankfully this time we had padded seats. They speak French here (being that France currenlty is in charge over here) and they drive like french people too - organised chaos.
We toured the biggest valley in the country, the river is running low at the moment, but according to our guide when it's the rainy season - the three hyrdo plants in the valley can provide 90% of the power of the whole island!
It's very beautiful countryside - we had another great guide, I think he was a botanist or something, beacuse he kept stopping and showing us all the edible food and such they have just growing outside their doors.
We came across a cemetary - which is unusual on this trip - as most of the ploynesian islanders just bury people in their back yard (seriously, I have pictures of the graves just in people's backyards! we got told one story of a guy who owned a pub, and he decided to have himself buried beside his bar and then have the bar extended out over the top of him!)
