Hong Kong (9th of September)
Well Hong Kong is a very pretty city - we sailed in around 8am, lots of tall skyscrpaers, I don't think it's quite as big as Shanghai, but all those big buidings are compressed into a smaller space, with some really massive ones (even taller than the ones in Shanghai).
The cruise terminal surprised me today, we basically walked off the ship into a big shopping mall! what a great idea! people were spending money everywhere as soon as they got off the ship! Prices weren't terribly good, but there was a good selection of products.
Our tour today started with a harbour cruise - we got to see lots of the city from the harbour - they make a lot of use of the water for travelling around - even with all the tunels going under the harbour.
After the cruise we went to the top of Mt Victoria (I think that was the name of it) - we took a cable car up a very steep mountain for some wonderful views of the city.Next was lunch at the 'Jumbo' floating resturant (our guide mentioned this was shown in the James Bond movie 'Gold Finger') - Lunch was very nice, for anyone who's been to one of the 'Yum-Cha' resturants in Australia, the food/atmosphere was similar, but a little more 'up market' (A$6 for a coke was a tad expensive). Oh - if you're going there, have the steamed pork buns, they're great!
After lunch we had a 'sampan' tour of a fishing village and then we stopped in at a few market type places.
The tour was great - lasting most of the day.
Sail out of the harbour was extremely impressive, the city looks incredible at night sailing out!
Nha Trang and Vung Tau are up next - we don't have any tours booked, but might get off the ship if something interests us.
I'll try to put up some more photos in Singapore - I'm told the internet there is quite good at the cruise terminal.
