Shanghai (6th of September)
Well the pollution in Shanghai is a lot less than our last stop! the city is HUGE, massive skyscrapers all over the place! This place is the biggest city I've personally seen.
Today our tour included a trip on the Maglev Train - this is the only commerical maglev train currently in existance. Maglev stands for Magnetic Levitation - the train hovers above the track (only a centimeter or two - so it's not really visibly different from other trains (other than the perfectly flat track it runs on). Anyway, without the friction of being in contact with a track, the train can attain very high speeds - the track runs out to the international airport - about 30kms away and it takes about 7mins. The maximum speed that the train gets to is 431kmph!!! the train can actually go up over 500kmph, but the track isn't long enough/straight enough on that little run. Travelling on the train is actually smoother than a regular train, it's hard to tell it's even moving if you're not looking out the window! The trip was great fun! If you're going to Shanghai, definately give it a go!
Next stop was the "Jin Mao" tower's observation deck - it's quite a tall building 88 stories and 420 meters tall - but it's dwarfed by the new financial centre town, that's over 100 stories. Definately some nice views from up there, you can see most of this massive city, it's quite impressive.
Shanghai was very nice!
