Xingang - China (3rd of September)

Well we arrived in China to a smoggy morning - we should have known it would be a bit smoggy, since the pollution started a hundred or so miles out - floating garbage and brown coloured haze everywhere (the air pollution makes Pusan look clean!)

Today we visited the Great Wall of China.. after a three hour drive on some very new highways (looks like they were built for the games, they're quite impressive). We arrived at the wall - talk about a painful thing to build! The wall in the segment we were touring was up on mountain tops, following the contours of the land down into the valleys. They're restored part of the wall using period building materials and it's quite a wide thing (much wider than I thought, you could think of it like a raised single lane road.)

Lunch sucked rather badly.. I think the Chinese people don't drink cold drinks - warm beer and warm coke really wasn't what most people on the tour were looking for after a three hour drive in a bus.

All in all the wall was quite impressive and worth the trip to see it (even considering the pollution and horrible lunch!).

Next stop is Shanghai!

So do we get to see any photos of the wall? that would be something great if you can get them up :)

Take care, enjoy the rest of your trip mate - I fly out Wednesday morning for Berlin so we'll have to catch up when we're both back in the country
