Friday 5th of July 2019 - Stockholm (Sweden)

View on the way in
This is our first tender port in a while - we tied up to two mooring points in the harbour (another cruise liner was docked at the terminal) - and shuttled our way across.

Damn it's cold here! and overcast and rainy! this is apparently normal summer weather and the temperature was 'warm' according to our guide (it was about 10C with a very cold wind blowing).
Main Hall - Stockholm City Hall

Anyway - we got onto the tour bus (thankfully it was warm on the bus) and began with a short trip through the city.  We arrived at the City Hall - where they host the Nobel Prize dinner and had a tour of the local government chambers.  It was an impressive building! They're very proud of their heritage, Vikings are prominently displayed!

Various Nobel awards
Next we headed for the Vasa Museum - this was something I'd never heard of - in the 16th Century the King of Sweden launched a massive warship that basically sailed 1000m from it's berth and sank into the deep waters of the bay.  400 years later they salvaged it - and it was completely intact!

They got it out of the bay and to make a long story short they created a museum building it would fit in.  It was very impressive, if a little crowded.

We then did a tour of the main palace - again, very impressive - and had a traditional Swedish lunch (yes, you Ikea fans, it was Swedish meatballs! and they tasted very similar to Ikea's).  After lunch we had some time to look around, but with the constant rain, we mostly just looked for somewhere dry.
