28/6/2010 - ANZAC Cove (At sea)
We arrived at ANZAC cove before dawn, it was quite a hot day out on deck - in the mid 30s. The view from the ship was of a stark coastline with steep beaches topped by ridges and a few trees.
To think of all the ANZACs that threw themselves onto that beach into machinegun fire.. trying to run up a jagged hill with the Turks shooting down at them. I know after looking at it I'd be thinking twice about just climbing it without the machinegun fire!
There were ceremonies during the day and a wreath laid - We were quite a distance out in the cove, but with binoculars it was easy to see close up. The picture was taken when we were at the closest point to shore.
